Ten Commandments of Filmmaking

On 11/30/2009, in Film/Video, by Jonathan

Peter D. Marshall is the closest thing I have to a real live hero in this biz. Sure, I’m a big fan of numerous actors, directors, even producers, but Mr. Marshall has a great site. Today, I’d like to share a link from his site on the Ten Commandments of Filmmaking. He discusses many of the things he has run across in his 35 years (!!!) in the filmmaking business. Enjoy!

It’s the first sunday after the first holiday in the “Holiday Season” (until they finally recognize Halloween as a “real” holiday). I’m over-familied, over-stuffed, over-traveled, out-shopped, and totally wiped out. I need a vacation after my short vacation! ;)

Whether it’s working on my wife’s online store (voon.etsy.com), taking pictures for the store, working on any of a variety of film and video projects, or going out and drumming up more business, I have to keep working. My clients won’t let me be lazy (not that I really want to be lazy, I just want the option of being lazy ;) . Some mornings you wonder if it’s worth it to chew through the leather straps.

Then I get a bone: Wowee! Someone needs something! We have it! Sweet! Those are the days I really like: you get new business while you are working on one thing and find yourself set for the next few weeks at least (or at least have a schedule that goes out for more than a month). Ah! I have fresh teeth and I gladly chew through the straps to get my day started!

Some days it’s pure adrenaline. Others, it’s lots and lots of coffee. Most of the time, I’m happy to do the work, pleased to have client input and eager to start the day. Maybe it’s just because today is Sunday and Cyber Monday is tomorrow and my wife and I have an online store. I feel quite anxious.

What do you do for motivation? Let us know!

Our Brand New Site!

On 11/19/2009, in Film/Video, Jewelry, Miscellaneous, by Jonathan

After much hard work, the Electric Tiger Productions site/blog is up. Don’t forget to check out the recently created store for WeeGonza and her fine jewelry and crafts! Don’t forget to sign up to the site for some great news and posts involving Tucson and the local filmmaking scene.

Some of you may already know, but we premiered Writing Fren-Zee at Crossroads and then had a second showing at Beowulf here in Tucson! Congratulations Marty! Other productions I have worked on are gearing up for release, but these are the recent ones.

More news to come. Feel free to contact me or post whenever you like.
